This describes a typical registration for a first-semester PhD student in Georgia Tech's ACO Program. Your own registration depends on your background and particular interests. Please begin by consulting the degree description and your academic advisor.
To be a full-time student you need to register for at least 12 hours, at least 9 of which must be for a letter grade or pass/fail. The other 3 may be taken on an audit basis. You may register for more than 12 hours, and this is recommended if there is a realistic chance that you will drop one of your courses. New courses cannot be added after the first week of classes.
You must be full-time in order to receive a stipend, and, if you are an international student, to have a valid visa. Here is a typical first-semester registration for a GTA:
| course | title | basis | hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| MATH 8997 | Teaching Assistantship | Audit | 3 |
| MATH 6121 | Algebra I | L/G | 3 |
| MATH 6014 | Graph Theory | L/G | 3 |
| ISYE 6661 | Optimization I | L/G | 3 |
