Applications for Admission

Applications should be submitted several months before the desired admission date. Nearly all students begin in the Fall Semeter. The deadline for Fall applications is March 1. Applying before December 31st is strongly encouraged as we begin review of applications in January. Moreover, Institute -and internal- fellowships are typically awarded early in the screening process.

To be eligible to apply to any of the graduate programs in the School of Mathematics a student must receive a bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning before enrolling. The degree should be in mathematics or a related subject including at least a year of advanced mathematical study beyond calculus and linear algebra. All applicants shall submit scores from the General Tests of the Graduate Record Examinations. Applicants to any of the PhD. Programs housed in Mathematics are required to submit scores on the Subject Tests of the GRE (in Mathematics), and this is encouraged also for applicants to the MS programs in the School of Mathematics. International students whose native language is not English must pass a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a score of at least 570 (paper based) or 230 (computer based) or 88 (internet based) before admission to Mathematics can be considered. An exception is made for students who have been studying in the US for a year or more.

A non-refundable application fee of $50.00 must be remitted with your application.
