FAQs for Incoming Fall Freshmen

Additional Registration Information for Incoming Fall Freshmen:

1.         If a math section that I want is closed (full), what should I do?

Register for an open section at a different time.

2.         How do I request a space if all math sections are closed?

When ALL sections of the course are closed, you will be able to submit a closed class overload request on OSCAR . The overload page will be available on Day 2 of FASET and until 10 a.m. the day after your FASET session ends.  See also the overload and permit information.

3.         When will I find out whether I get an overload for a requested section?

It may take several hours.  An email notification will be sent to your GT email account by noon the day after your FASET session ends.  You can also check the request status on OSCAR.

4.         If  I get an overload for a math section, am I registered for that section?

No, you have a permit that will allow you to register for a closed section.  To add this section, select the add/drop option on OSCAR.  Enter the course registration number (CRN) of the section that you have an overload in, and submit the change.  You must add this section by 11:59 p.m. EST on the day after your FASET session ends.  All unused overload permits will be deleted after each phase of registration.

5.         I don’t have AP credit for MATH 1501, but I plan to take an advanced placement exam for MATH 1501 on August 16th.  Should I register for a math class during FASET?

Yes, you should register for MATH 1501.  If you pass the placement exam, you will be issued GT credit for MATH 1501 and a permit to register for MATH 1502.

6.         I am in the Honors Program (HP).  How do I get a permit to register for the honors program section of MATH 1512, Honors Calculus II?

If you are qualified to take MATH 1512, you should already have the permit to register for the HP  section.  If we do not have a permit, please contact your Honors Program advisor.

7.         I am not in the Honors Program.  How do I get a permit to register for the non-HP section of MATH 1512, Honors Calculus II?

We will email the application information for the non-HP section of MATH 1512 (Sections C1 and C2) to students who have the AP Calculus BC score of 5 in early July.  If you do not receive the invitation or do not have the above Calculus BC score, please see MATH 1512 application information (to be activated by June 9, 2009).  We will email application status update by August 14th.  During FASET, please sign up for the regular Calculus II class, MATH 1502.

8.         I am in the Honors Program, can I take the non-HP section of MATH 1512?

Yes, you will need to apply for MATH 1512 (Sections C1 and C2).  See FAQ #7.
