Course Overload and Permit Instructions and Guidelines

Early Registration: Fall 2008

We do not accept any more overload or permit requests in this phase. Please submit your request online at the OSCAR registration override request system during Phase I of Registration, from July 9 to July 20.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

WE ISSUE THREE TYPES OF PERMITS:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION :

  • Submitting a request does not guarantee that you will be granted the permit.

  • Each type of permit is processed independent of the others. You may need to submit more than one type of request for a class.

  • An auto-generated message will be sent to your GT account when your request is processed. You can also check your request status on OSCAR. A typical processing time for a prerequisite or permit request is three workdays. An overload request may take longer to process depending on the space availability. All requests will be processed by 4:00 pm on Monday, April 21.

  • A student cannot attend class without being enrolled in it. If you have received a permit, you must add the section to your schedule to be enrolled in it. All unused overload permits will be deleted after 11:59 pm on Tuesday, April 22.

  • Overload sections are available only after all sections with same meeting time have been closed.

  • We can only accept overload requests for particular meeting times. We do not accept overload requests for particular instructors. If space is available in another section that meets at the same time as the requested section, you may be granted an overload permit for the other section.

  • An undergraduate student cannot take more than one core math course during the same term. The core courses are 1113, 1501, 1502, 1512, 2401, 2403, 2411, 2413, 2602, 2605, and 2804.

  • MATH 1502 KB1, KB2, and KB3 are for biology majors only. We do not accept permit override requests for these sections.

  • Sections HP, HP1, and HP2 are for Honors Program students only.

  • Sections Q, Q1, QH1, QH2, QH3, and RCC are video sections. Main-campus students cannot register for these video sections.

  • Most 4000 level courses are divided into graduate and undergraduate sections. The section for graduate students ends with a "G", and the section for undergraduate students ends with a "U". A graduate student does not need a prerequisite override for a 4000 level section that ends with a "G". A graduate student cannot register for a 4000 level section that ends with a "U". An undergraduate student cannot register for a 4000 level section that ends with a "G".

  • We do not keep a waitlist from the early registration period. If your overload request is denied in this phase, you will need to resubmit your request during Phase I of registration period, from July 9 to July 20.
