Combinatorics motivated by and with applications to molecular biology, and also string algorithms. Specifically combinatorics of plane trees and de Bruijn sequences; design, analysis, and prediction of RNA secondary structures and DNA code words; computational complexity of generalized pattern matching; algorithms for unavoidability testing.
