Transfer courses for the Old Core: MATH 15X1, 15X2, 1522, 17X1, 17X2, 24X1, and 24X3

Please refer to the Transfer Credit Evaluation page for information on steps in getting the courses you completed at another school transferred to Georgia Tech.

If a mathematics course is evaluated as MATH 15X1, 15X2, 1522, 17X1, 17X2, 24X1, or 24X3, read the information below carefully.

MATH 15X1 (Transfer Calculus I, 3 credit hours)

This course is equivalent to MATH 1501 (Calculus I, 4 credit hours). Ask your academic advisor to substitute MATH 15X1 and 1 hour of MATH electives for MATH 1501 to satisfy the graduation requirement. Please consult your academic advisor about the mathematics requirement for your major.

MATH 15X2 (Transfer Calculus II, 3 or 4 credit hours)

This course is NOT equivalent to MATH 1502 (Calculus II, 4 credit hours). A Calculus II course at another college or university does not normally contain linear algebra.

  • If you completed a Linear Algebra course, have your Calculus II course reevaluated. See the Transfer Credit Evaluation page.
  • If you did not take linear algebra and you are required to take more than 1 year of mathematics, you will need to complete MATH 1522 (Linear Algebra for Calculus) BEFORE taking MATH 2401 (Calculus III), MATH 2605 (Calculus III for Computer Science Major), or MATH 2403 (Differential Equations) or any mathematics courses beyond Calculus II.
  • If you did not take linear algebra and you only need 1 year of mathematics, please consult your academic advisor about the mathematics requirement for your major.

MATH 1522 (Linear Algebra for Calculus, 2 credit hours)

If you have credit for both MATH 15X2 (Transfer Calculus II) and MATH 1522, you have the equivalence of MATH 1502 (Calculus II). Ask your academic advisor to substitute MATH 15X2 and MATH 1522 for MATH 1502 to satisfy the graduation requirement. Please consult your academic advisor about the mathematics requirement for your major.

MATH 17X1 (Transfer Finite Mathematics, 3 credit hours)

This course has been evaluated as reasonably equivalent in content to MATH 1711 (Finite Mathematics, 4 credit hours), but not equivalent in semester hours (Georgia Tech will not transfer more semester hours than were awarded at the previous college). The major academic advisor may, upon request, substitute MATH 17X1 and 1 semester hour of another Mathematics course for MATH 1711 to satisfy the semester hour requirement, or will advise you how the 1 hour shortage may be satisfied otherwise. Please consult your major academic advisor to confirm the mathematics requirement for your academic discipline and their policy.

MATH 17X2 (Transfer Survey of Calculus, 3 credit hours)

This course has been evaluated as reasonably equivalent in content to MATH 1712 (Survey of Calculus, 4 credit hours), but not equivalent in semester hours (Georgia Tech will not transfer more semester hours than were awarded at the previous college). The major academic advisor may, upon request, substitute MATH 17X2 and 1 semester hour of another Mathematics course for MATH 1712 to satisfy the semester hour requirement, or will advise you how the 1 hour shortage may be satisfied otherwise. Please consult your major academic advisor to confirm the mathematics requirement for your academic discipline and their policy.

MATH 24X1 (Transfer Calculus III, 3 credit hours)

This course is equivalent to MATH 2401 (Calculus III, 4 credit hours). Ask your academic advisor to substitute MATH 24X1 and 1 hour of free electives for MATH 2401 to satisfy the graduation requirement. Please consult your academic advisor about the mathematics requirement for your major.

MATH 24X3 (Differential Equations, 3 credit hours)

This course is equivalent to MATH 2403 (Differential Equations, 4 credit hours). Ask your academic advisor to substitute MATH 24X3 and 1 hour of free electives for MATH 2403 to satisfy the graduation requirement. Please consult your academic advisor about the mathematics requirement for your major.
