**Optional GT Advanced Placement Mathematics Examinations for New Summer and Fall 2017 Freshmen**

**Friday August 18th, 2017 . Applications no longer accepted. **

**Two times for the exams: 10am-12p.m. and 2-4p.m. ***The room will be Howey Physics L1***. **

**Applications due by August 17th. Please read carefully through the bottom of the page before you apply. **

An incoming freshman with College Board AP Calculus credit, International Baccalaureate (IB) Mathematics credit, French Baccalaureate Mathematics credit, University of Cambridge Mathematics credit, Edexcel Mathematics credit or Scottish Qualification Certificates credit may be awarded credit for MATH 1551, Differential Calculus, or MATH 1552, Integral Calculus (see the AP credit chart). A student may also receive transfer credit if he or she made at least a C in a math class at a college before attending Georgia Tech. The School of Mathematics will offer optional GT advanced placement mathematics examinations to incoming freshmen who wish to test out of MATH 1113 (Precalculus), MATH 1551 (Differential Calculus), MATH 1552 (Integral Calculus) and/or MATH 1553 (Intro to Lineal Algebra). The exams for MATH 1113, MATH 1551, MATH 1552 and MATH 1553 may have both multiple choice and free-response questions. The exams will be given at 10 a.m. or 2pm on Friday, August 18, 2015 in the Skiles General Classroom Building. Eligible students may take up to 2 exams. Please check this webpage in August for the exam room information,** in Howey Physics L1.**

The GT Advanced Placement exam for MATH 1113 is for students who wish to test out of Precalculus and register in MATH 1551, MATH 1553, MATH 1554, MATH 1564, MATH 1711 or MATH 1712.

If you already have GT credit for MATH 1551 from one of the options listed in the first paragraph, you do not have to take the optional GT Advanced Placement exam for MATH 1551. You may elect to take the optional GT Advanced Placement exam for MATH 1552. Please read the description below to determine whether you are qualified to test out of MATH 1552.

**Optional GT Advanced Placement MATH 1113 Exam (2hrs, calculators are not allowed):**

The MATH 1113 exam is open to any student with mathematics SAT score of less than 600. If the student passes the exam, he/she will be allowed to register for MATH 1551, MATH 1711, MATH 1712, MATH 1553 or MATH 1554. No academic credit is granted for passing this precalculus exam. **Optional GT Advanced Placement MATH 1551 Exam (2 hours, calculators are not allowed):**

MATH 1551 exam is open to any student with a mathematics SAT score of 600 or higher. If a student passes the MATH 1551 exam, he/she will be given credit for MATH 1551 and will be allowed to register for MATH 1552.

**Optional GT Advanced Placement MATH 1552 Exam (2 hours, calculators are not allowed):**

MATH 1552 exam is open to any student who has credit for MATH 1551 (see the AP credit chart) or that has passed the MATH 1551 placement exam. If you take the placement exam for MATH 1551 in the morning and the exam for MATH 1552 in the afternoon, but you did not pass the exam for 1551, then your exam for MATH 1552 won't be graded. If a student passes the MATH 1552 exam, he/she will be given credit for MATH 1552.

**Optional GT Advanced Placement MATH 1553 Exam (2 hours, calculators are not allowed):**

MATH 1553 exam is open to any student with a mathematics SAT score of 600 or higher. If a student passes the MATH 1553 exam, he/she will be given credit for MATH 1553.
