Undergraduate Research Semester

In addition to our Summer REU program, students can pursue research with a professor for a full semester (in Spring, Summer, or Fall). This can be either for course credit, or where the professor has funds from a research grant, paid research without course credit. These are the options:

  • Research Semester for Course Credit
Typically students will receive three hours of course credit, although it may be as little as one hour of course credit. Those with less than 60 hours of college credits, register for MATH 2699 Undergraduate Research. Those with at least 60 hours of college credits, register for MATH 4699 Undergraduate Research.
  • Sponsored Research Semester
Those with less than 60 hours of college credits, register for MATH 2698 Research Assistantship. Those with at least 60 hours of college credits, register for MATH 4698 Research Assistantship. This is for those whose research is sponsored by a professor's grant. No course credit is assigned. The course will appear on the student's academic transcript.

How to Apply
The student contacts a professor whose research interests he/she finds attractive, and checks if the professor is available. If the professor is available, the student contacts the Undergraduate Adviser undergrad-advisor@math.gatech.edu. The student includes the name of the professor and term of proposed undergraduate research.
