UNDERGRADUATE TA APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Fall 2008
Part I: Materials
Please return the completed application package to the Academic Office (Skiles 125) by 4 pm on Monday, March 3. The office should be open from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm. If the Academic Office is closed, drop off the package in the School of Mathematics Office (Skiles 117). Your application must include the following items:
A one-page resume
Completed problem set
Available times for interviews and teaching demonstration
Permission slips for School of Mathematics and Dean of Students offices
Your application will be reviewed by the UTA Selection Committee. Applicants will be selected for the interview/teaching demonstration process based on all the above materials, with special emphasis on the problem set score, math courses completed, current GPA, and faculty recommendation.
Part II: Interview Process
If you are selected for an interview and a teaching demonstration, Ms. Sharon McDowell will e-mail you the appointment times and locations by March 10. If you do not hear from us by that time, you should contact Ms. McDowell at smcdowell@math.gatech.edu or 404-894-4210.
Please see the teaching demonstration form for instructions on the demo.
Interviews will be with the TA and scheduling coordinators, and at least one returning UTA. You may be interviewed along with another applicant. Please arrive at the interview and the teaching demonstration rooms at least 5 minutes early. If another applicant is still in the room, please wait in the hallway.
Ms. McDowell will e-mail you a teaching preference form by April 18. You will be able to state your course and time preferences on this form. Please return the completed teaching preference form to the Academic Office (Skiles 125) or the School of Mathematics Office (Skiles 117) by 4 pm on April 23. You may also e-mail the form to Ms. McDowell.

SELECTION NOTIFICATION:
The UTA selection will be done in two phases.
Early Decision Phase - A very strong candidate will be offered the position by April 25.
Regular Decision Phase - Since new freshmen will not register until early July, most UTA applicants will not be notified about the status of the applications until July 8.

** Please note: If you interviewed with us last year and did not teach for us, you will have to go through the application process again. If you have previously taught for us and are interested in teaching for us again in Fall 2008 or Spring 2009, you do not have to go through the application process. Please contact Ms. Grodzinsky for the teaching preference form.
