Georgia Tech High School Mathematics Competition

Dear HSMC Participants, Parents, and Coaches,

The 2008 Georgia Tech High School Mathematics Competition is rapidly approaching, and we would like to give you the latest information as you make your plans to come to our campus on Saturday, 23 February 2008. If your plans have changed and you will be unable to attend, please email hsmc@math.gatech.edu and let us know. Please check the site for maps and driving directions, detailed check-in procedures, information on the competition format and rules, and the day's schedule.

We encourage you all to follow the driving directions posted on the HSMC website. In particular, due to road construction, Techwood Drive is closed from 16th Street to 10th Street. This means that traffic coming to campus from the north on I-75 or I-85 will not have access to campus via 10th Street, so please make use of the directions we have posted. The Area 3 parking lot adjacent to the Instructional Center will be available for free throughout the day of the HSMC, and buses should park on Ferst Drive. Please keep in mind that while our campus is quite safe, we are located in an urban environment, so secure all valuables out of sight.

Check-in and breakfast will begin at 0730 and continue until 0840. Participants who have not checked in by 0840 and have not called 678.576.5344 to inform us that they are running behind will have their registrations cancelled and the seats will be opened to on-site registrants. Testing will begin promptly at 0900. We have revised our check-in procedures for this year to make the process smoother. In particular, we ask that if possible, one person check in an entire school's group of participants.

On the day of the competition, you can reach our HSMC information desk at 678.576.5344 if you are running behind, need directions, or need to contact a participant. Prior to the competition, please call 404.894.4210 or (preferably) email hsmc@math.gatech.edu.

Participants, please be sure to share this message with your parents and teachers/coaches.

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED: Thanks to everybody that registered. All HSMC organizers/volunteers are looking forward to competition day!

Registration cancellations: If you have pre-registered for the HSMC and will be unable to attend, please email hsmc@math.gatech.edu to let us know in advance.

Substitutions: Coaches who have pre-registered participants who will be unable to attend should email hsmc@math.gatech.edu in advance if they have another student that they would like to bring in place of the participant who will not be able to attend.

On-site registration: There will be a limited number of slots available for on-site registration on the date of the competition on a first-come, first-served basis. On-site registration will begin at 0730 and will continue as space is available. Spaces will be made available in the event that pre-registered participants do not check-in by 0840. The fee for on-site registration will be $25.

Payment confirmation: If payment was sent by check and an electronic confirmation was not received, please email hsmc@math.gatech.edu.
